Toorak Village welcomes Coles Local with local suppliers

A brand new Coles has opened up in one of Melbourne’s oldest suburbs, with locals calling it a “fabulous addition” to the area.

Tookrak Village welcomed a Coles Local earlier this week, with the supermarket chain promising the store will house a selection of the city’s favourite suppliers.

The supermarket is intended to be a grab-and-go destination, meaning there is an extended range of convenience meals such as pastas, lasagnes and pizzas from Brunswick’s 400 Gradi, salads and soups from Foxes Den, and gourmet sandwiches from Aston Lucas Gourmet.

Other suppliers to the store include Cremorne St Bakers and Laurent Bakery.

There is a 12-foot cheese case, including items from That’s Amore, from both Australia and around the world.

There is also a specialty butcher and a frozen dessert bar inside, which features macarons, mochi, mini gelato and single-serve ice creams.

Social media users were divided on the supermarket being included in the area.

One said: “Was there today, such a great asset to have. Something we have been crying out to have for years.”

“Looking forward to shopping at Coles next week,” another said, while one called it a “fabulous addition.

Not everyone agreed however, with one social media user saying: “Why do you need two major supermarkets right near each other!!!! Couldn’t you have gotten a boutiquey IGA with fancier choices for the area!”

Jake Parker, Coles Local Toorak Village store manager, has worked for the supermarket giant for 15 years.

More Coverage

“We couldn’t be more excited to join one of Melbourne’s most renowned shopping strips and to offer customers a shopping experience that really reflects the energy of the local community,” Mr Parker said.

“Our Local format stores are developed with the community top-of-mind. Each element of the store has been curated to provide a unique experience which really champions Melbourne’s most loved suppliers, with the convenience and products customers can expect to find in a regular Coles store.”

Any unsold edible foods will be donated to Second Bite, which is a national food rescue organisation in Australia.
