She was raised in Split and discovered her passion for performing at the age of 10.
In 1989, Severina released her debut eponymous studio album. It included the hit songs Vodi me na ples, Sve do zore, Svirajte mi rokeri, Budim se s imenom tvojim, Zamisli, and Tvoja prva djevojka.
At the Eurovision Song Contest 2006, she finished in 12th place with the song Moja štikla.
She made her debut theatrical appearance at the Croatian National Theatre in Rijeka where she played the titular role in the rock opera Karolina Riječka in 2003.
