Ivan Miroshnichenko, selected No. 20 by the Washington Capitals in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, has been cleared for game action after his recovery from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma diagnosed last season, his agent told The Athletic.

Miroshnichenko has not played a game in nearly a year as he has undergone treatment. He will likely begin in the Russian junior league, the MHL, to start and then progress to the professional ranks if everything goes well.

Miroshnichenko was a prospect who was widely thought of by scouts as a top-five talent in a 2022 draft prior to his diagnosis. Last March, Russia Hockey said that he could miss all of this season as he was dealing with “serious health problems.” Miroshnichenko was receiving medical treatment in Germany, the federation said.

The forward was a captain for Russia at the 2021 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and helped lead the country to gold. Miroshnichenko is supposed to play with Avangard’s MHL team on Sunday and Monday, a team source confirmed to The Athletic.
